The work of the Spanish artist Lita Cabellut (Barcelona, 1961) is being presented for the first time on large scale in the Netherlands at the NoordBrabants Museum in Den Bosch. Since the reopening of the museum on May 24th, I work there as a hostess. It’s a great part time job next to my study. And now I’ve fallen in love with the work of Lita Cabellut.

De expositie van Lita Cabellut omvat twee series.
De eerste heet ‘Trilogie van de Twijfel’. Deze serie bestaat uit vijf drieluiken. Het zijn maatschappelijk geïnspireerde schilderijen die zowel de goede als de slechte kant van het leven belichten. De doeken zijn groot, erg groot, en daardoor erg indrukwekkend.
The Lita Cabellut exhibition consists of two series.
The first one is called ‘Trilogy of Doubt’. It consists of five societal inspired triptychs which represent the good and bad aspects of life. The paintings are big, very big, and because of that they are overwhelming.

De tweede serie heet ‘Sterke Vrouwen’ en is mijn favoriet. De eerste keer dat ik deze schilderijen zag was ik meteen verkocht. Ze zijn prachtig, groots, theatraal en toch fragiel. Dat fragiele komt, naar mijn idee, door het gebruik van een lak/vernislaag die een soort craquelé effect geeft.
The other series is called ‘Strong Woman’ and this one is my favorite. The first time I saw the paintings I was sold. They are beautiful, billboard-size, theatrical and yet fragile. I think they look fragile because Lita uses a varnish coating, which gives a sort of crackle effect.
